Jenny Berge, our Advanced Dental Therapist at HealthFinders Faribault Clinic, has been accepted into the Minnesota Dental Therapist Loan Forgiveness Program. This is a program that is offered by the Minnesota Department of Health to help health professionals pay off their student loans while providing their skills to underserved communities. Many people have difficulty reaching the healthcare services they need, an issue that we are all too familiar with here at HealthFinders. This Loan Forgiveness program seeks to tackle an issue for many communities of a lack of health care providers in their area. Many rural communities struggle to attract primary health care practitioners to their area. The program is designed to allocate health care professionals to areas where their services are most needed, while simultaneously helping newly minted graduates pay their school loans. There are several different loan forgiveness programs for a variety of health care providers. The Dental Therapist Program requires that participants work for at least 3 years and up to 4 years in a rural community in order to receive funding for their loans. Participants receive up to $10,000 annually to be put towards their student loans. Funding for the program comes from the Minnesota Department of Health. The program is very competitive and applicants are selected based on their personal and professional experiences that make them suitable to work in the field. Jenny joined our Healthfinders dental team this past fall. As an Advanced Dental Therapist, she works in our Faribault Clinic offering many services such as tooth extractions, fillings, stainless steel crowns, exams, sealants, and cleanings. She has expressed that she is very happy working for HealthFinders and feels blessed for this opportunity to use her skills to helping people who need it most. We are very proud of Jenny for receiving this award. For more information follow this link to MDH's page on their Loan Forgiveness program.
